We finished PARCC testing today! Make-up testing will commence next week for those students who were absent or arrived at school once the testing began.
Progress Reports are being sent home today. They need to signed and returned ASAP. Hopefully, you've tracked your students progress on the Parent Portal so there aren't too many surprises.
Please, please, please check and clean out your student's red folders regularly. I just cleaned out a folder which still had the January calendar in it. Many parents say they don't know what to keep or throw away. Ask your child. They know what they need to keep and what they don't! We send home communication from Mrs. Iles-Gomez and other important information. Additionally, many of the students need organization modeled to them!
Dates to Remember:
Saturday, March 14: Inaugural St. Patrick's Day Parade
Tuesday, March 17: St. Patrick's Day Trinket Sale
Tuesday, March 24: 4th Grade Rock 'n Roll Music Program (6 pm) A MUST SEE!
Tuesday, March 31: Gifted Program/Assessment Night (6-7:30)
Enjoy the warm weather FINALLY!

PARCC testing begins on Monday. Testing in the school will be taking place for the next three weeks. We will be taking one test each morning. It is crucial that your child is in school and on time every morning or they will have to take make-up tests. A dress down reward will be given to those with Perfect Attendance during testing
On this same note, be aware that Sunday night is Daylight Saving! Clocks spring ahead one hour! Make sure your child goes to bed early so they are well rested, as they will be losing an hour of sleep.
Progress Reports will be sent home on Friday. They need to be signed and returned ASAP. It is a requirement for them to go to the Wheel of Wisdom.
Thank you!

Back by popular demand, the next Reward Assembly will be The Wheel of Wisdom. Criteria will be posted next week. They are similar to the criteria for all previous rewards (number of excused or unexcused absences, missing assignments etc.)
The students and Mrs. Schwerha told us that last week's Choir Field Trip to Navy Pier was great! The students were very well-behaved and had a great time!
Please make sure that if your child is signed up for an after school program that they SHOW UP to the after school program!
** VERY IMPORTANT**
Along with our Chromebooks, the students recieved their own CPS email account. This account is part of CPS and is able to be monitored by the school and Board of Education. We've explained to the students that the email is school property, but already we've seen students using it inappropriately. Please make sure they know the consequences even when using the account outside of school.
Also, it is unacceptable for the students to email the us after school hours to ask about homework. We do not check our work accounts throughout the evening, night, and early morning before school. We can't be held responsible for getting back to them as quickly as they need answers. If they don't know what page they are supposed to do, they simply weren't listening in class and/or didn't write it down in their assignment books as we instructed and gave them time to do. That is their responsibility and they will pay the same consequences they did before they had access to email account.
Have a great week!

We have a busy week (and month) ahead!
1, Report cards will be distributed tomorrow. They need to be signed and returned ASAP. If you are shocked by your child's grade, consider keeping up to date on the Parent Portal.
2. This Friday, we have NAEP testing. The 4th grade was selected to take the test this year. (Lucky us!) There is a Reading, Math, and Science portion. The students scores will not effect their grades, report cards, or whether they move on to 5th grade, Nevertheless, they should come prepared and do their best!
3. January Reward is also on Friday. Students who have earned the reward will watch a movie in the auditorium. Students are aware of the criteria. You can review them by scrolling down to previous entries.
4. We won't be having Valentine's Day Parties because of our busy Friday. Rest assured, we'll make sure the student's are loved and get a sweet treat to mark the day!
5. Last, but not least, 4th grade will be receiving a cart of Chromebooks for use in all subjects! We are very excited for all of the things we will be able to do with this new technology. Students and parents signed a Chromebook Contract last week.
A special thank you to those of you who donated to Student Council's food drive!

How does time seem to both fly and crawl simultaneously? At times, it's as if we can't believe it's already February and we've got so much more to do with your students! On the other hand, we can't believe how much your students have accomplished already, and it's only February!
Here are some reminders (some repeated, some new):

2. There IS school tomorrow, 1/30. It is a regular attendance day.
3. Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive (2/2-2/6). Students can bring in a non-perishable food item or a cash donation. For each donation, students will receive a raffle ticket.
4. Monday, 2/2 (3:30-7:30) is McDonald's Night: An 8th Grade Fundraiser. 6720 W. Archer Ave.
5. Reward Criteria are listed below.
6. We sent home information about the NAEP test. Please read. 4th grade was selected to take this test on 2/13.
7. Report Cards will be sent home soon. Since we don't meet to deliver these in person, we ask that they be signed and returned.

Weekly Reminders
1. 4th grade MAP testing is almost over! We have one class left (Ms. Weine's) on Monday. The students have shown a lot of growth in both subjects. Many of our students grew---from 1 to 25 points! This is certainly something to celebrate. As we celebrate the growth, we need to remember that it's of even more importance that the students are ON grade level!
2. Our in-school field trip scheduled for tomorrow was postponed. It will be rescheduled in February. Please continue to have your child bring in permission slip and $2.50.
3. Permission Slips were sent out for choir participants for an Alumni Night performance. Please return as soon as possible.
4. Send in Box Tops! The competition ends 1/29.
5. Student Council is sponsoring a Food Drive for the Chicago Food Depository (2/2-2/6). Students will receive a raffle ticket for each item they bring in. (They can certainly bring in foods before 2/2!)
6. Last but not least, January 30th is now a regular attendance day. We'll be there ready to teach!
Have a great weekend!

Fall is officially here!
Progress Reports will be coming home Friday.
Please send your child to school! If they have a doctor or dentist appointment, they aren't there ALL day! We'd rather them be late or leave early then to not come at all!
We'll be checking red folders on Monday. They should be cleaned out of old papers and things that are no longer needed.
Choir began on Wednesday. The student seemed to enjoy themselves a lot!
Halloween Reward Info:
- Students can bring candy for Halloween Reward. Please make sure they bring enough for approximately 32 other students.
- Students can dress in an appropriate costume. No fake guns, knives, swords etc.)
- Students need to fit the criteria in order to attend. Please see below. Many have yet to pay toward the school fee. Please don't wait until the last minute.
- Both excused and unexcused absences count against students!
Please see our perspective pages for information about what is going on in our subjects and homerooms.
Have a great weekend!

Thank Goodness it's Friday!
We've had a busy week. We are done MAP testing for the Fall. We will set goals for each student to meet and beat by the end of the year. Please talk to you child about their goals and how they can reach them!
If you have a computer or tablet at home, please make sure your child is spending time on Compass Learning. They know how to log on and what to do! It's a great way to get them to learn reading and math at their level. It will also keep them busy for a little! We can track the amount of time they spend and activities they complete.
A handful of students from each 4th grade room and a few 3rd grade rooms were selected to participate in the Chicago Children's Choir. Permission slips were sent home. They will be practicing Wednesday for one hour during class. They will be expected to make up any missing work. They also get to go on two field trips! More Information will come as soon as we have it to share!
Don't forget!
1. Cookie Dough Sale ends on Wednesday.
2. School fee is due by October 29th. You can pay in full or pay in increments toward the $30. (See Reward Criteria below)

Weine 212- Monday
Lujano 213- Wednesday
Murphy 210- Thursday
Vocabulary- The students had their first vocabulary quiz in Reading today and did not do too well. I will give the quiz again on Monday. Next time we take a vocab quiz, I will make sure they have the words and definitions so that they can practice throughout the week.

4th grade is taking our Fall Math MAP test on Tuesday. Please make sure your children eat a healthy breakfast and get a good night's sleep!
We will TRY to send graded work, tests, and other important papers on Fridays. However, please make sure to check your child's red folder on a regular basis.
Make sure all forms and payment toward the $30 school fee are sent. (See below: This is a requirement toward the Halloween Reward!) Some students still don't have necessary supplies such as pencils and notebooks. We've even had 4th graders who already are not completing assignments. (Yikes!)
STUDENTS SHOULD READ AND PRACTICE MATH FACTS FOR 20 MINUTES EACH EVERY NIGHT!
As always, contact us with any questions!

Welcome back to school! We enjoyed meeting many of you at Open House. Thank you for coming! We've had a busy first week introducing ourselves, getting to know the students and teaching them the "ins and outs" of 4th grade. So far, we are quite impressed with the 4th graders and are looking forward to a great year. Please encourage them to keep it up!
Thank you to those who for sent back so much paperwork so quickly. If you haven't yet, please send back all forms as soon as possible.
We will update this site on Fridays. Please make sure you check it out so you know what's going on in your child's classes. The tabs with our names will have specific information about the subjects we teach.
